Dr. Karlik is a life-long resident of the Pittsburgh Area. After graduating valedictorian of his high school class at Cornell High School, he completed Pharmacy School at Duquesne University graduating summa cum laude. Following this he completed Medical School at the University of Pittsburgh. Here he gained honors by serving as an officer in the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He then completed a medical internship at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh followed by his ophthalmology residency at the Saint Francis Medical Center of Pittsburgh, serving as Chief Resident his final year.
Dr. Karlik is a certified diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. His societal memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society. He has hospital staff privileges at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital, West Penn Hospital, Mercy Hospital, UPMC—Passavant Hospital, and Ohio Valley General Hospital. He has been active as a consultant at the Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is active teaching residents as Clinical Assistant Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Residency and medical students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Additionally, residents from West Penn Hospital Internal Medicine Residency frequently rotate with Dr. Karlik to gain experience with the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic disorders.
Dr. Karlik treats all aspects of ophthalmic and visual pathology in his private practice. He is a high volume ophthalmic surgeon. He performs hundreds of cataract surgeries and hundreds of other ophthalmic surgeries and lasers each year. He has extensive experience treating ophthalmic injuries obtained from his working in the emergency departments of all three of Pittsburgh's level one trauma centers, as well as a consultant at West Penn Hospital's Burn Unit.

Troy M. Karlik, D.O. completed his undergraduate training at Duquesne University, obtaining a B.S. in Pharmacy. Following this Dr. Karlik completed medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. After a one year medical internship at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Dr. Karlik completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Institute. His ophthalmology experience attained during residency was obtained from working at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Infirmary, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Veteran's Hospital in Oakland and rotations at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dr. Karlik is a certified diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He treats all aspects of Ophthalmologic pathology. He has broad surgical experience, but focuses primarily on cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Karlik has extensive experience in treating ophthalmic injuries by working in the emergency departments at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital and the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. During residency, Dr. Karlik made multiple clinical case presentations at the Eye and Ear Institute's grand rounds. Dr. Karlik has hospital staff privileges at UPMC-Passavant, Allegheny General Hospital, and Ohio Valley General Hospital. Dr. Karlik's societal memberships include the Pittsburgh Ophthalmologic society, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Osteopathic Association. Prior to medical school training, Dr. Karlik played Division I golf for Duquesne University and is currently a scratch golfer. He achieved Atlantic-10 Conference All-Academic Team Honors while competing in golf at Duquesne University.
